AI Robots.txt Generator
Your robots.txt file is the gatekeeper of your website. It tells search engines where they can go and where they are forbidden. Our AI Robots.txt Wizard is an advanced, visual tool designed to help you generate this critical file without syntax errors.
Beyond standard SEO, this tool features a unique AI Shield that helps you block Large Language Models (like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini) from scraping your unique content to train their AI models.
Why Block AI Scrapers?
In the modern web, "Good Bots" (like Google and Bing) bring you traffic. "Bad Bots" and AI Scrapers consume your server resources and copy your data to train their models without sending users back to your site.
By using this tool, you can specifically target and block agents like GPTBot (OpenAI), CCBot (Common Crawl), and ClaudeBot while ensuring your site remains 100% visible to Google Search.
Key Features
- Platform Presets: One-click configurations for WordPress, Shopify, Laravel, Wix, and more. We automatically add the standard disallow rules for these platforms.
- Visual Toggle System: No need to type "User-agent: *". Just toggle bots to "Allowed" (Green) or "Blocked" (Red).
- Safety Guardrails: The tool warns you instantly if you try to block Googlebot or your entire website root (
/), preventing SEO disasters. - Social Preview Support: Ensure your links still look good on Twitter, Facebook, and Slack by whitelisting their specific metadata crawlers.
How to Create Your File
- Select Platform: Choose your CMS or framework (e.g., WordPress). The tool will load the recommended folder restrictions.
- Manage Search Bots: Review the "Good Bots" list. We recommend keeping Google, Bing, and Social Media bots allowed for maximum visibility.
- Activate AI Shield: Go to the "Bad Bots" step. Use the "Block All" button to instantly disallow known AI scrapers and data miners.
- Add Custom Rules: If you have private folders (like
/private/or/tmp/), add them in the Rules step. - Generate & Upload: Click "Finish" to see your code. Copy the text, save it as a file named
robots.txt, and upload it to the root folder of your website (e.g.,public_html/robots.txt).
Frequently Asked Questions
Will blocking AI bots hurt my SEO ranking?
No. Blocking AI bots like GPTBot or CCBot does not affect your ranking on Google Search. These bots are used for training data, not for indexing websites for search results.
Where do I put the robots.txt file?
The file must be placed in the top-level directory of your website. It should be accessible at https://yourdomain.com/robots.txt. If you put it in a subdirectory, search engines will not find it.
What happens if I block the root (/)?
If you add Disallow: / for a specific bot, that bot cannot visit any page on your site. If you do this for "All Robots (*)", your entire website will disappear from search engines. Our tool includes a warning to prevent this mistake.
Do I need a Sitemap?
While not strictly required, adding your Sitemap URL to the robots.txt file is highly recommended. It helps crawlers discover your new pages faster. You can paste your sitemap URL in Step 4 of the wizard.
How do I create a robots.txt file for WordPress?
Use our AI Robots.txt Wizard and select 'WordPress' in Step 1. The tool will automatically add rules to allow admin-ajax.php while blocking the /wp-admin/ directory, ensuring optimal security and SEO.
